Snooker Update - Stephen Hendry

Stephen Hendry was barely recognisable as the greatest snooker player in history as he lost to close friend Mark Williams in the 12BET.com UK Championship on Tuesday night at the Telford International Centre in England.
At his best in the 1990s, Hendry swept all before him as he won seven world championships at the famous Crucible theatre in Sheffield.
But he has not won a ranking title for almost six years, and against Williams he looked a pale shadow of his former self, missing easy balls and heard to say as he walked around the table: “What is going on here?”
Hendry has fallen to No13 in the world rankings, and before this tournament was in danger of losing his prized place in the top 16 in the rankings. His win over Jimmy White in the first round should have saved that, at least.
Hendry said: “In golf there was a famous German player called Bernhard Langer who had something called the ‘yips’, when the putter got stuck as he tried to hit the ball and he couldn’t put the club through the ball.
“I didn’t feel I could hit the cue ball properly, so maybe I need to go and see him.
“But I will keep playing on, it’s not the end of my career. In a way I wish there weren’t the occasional frames when I play really well, because it gets my hopes up only to be dashed again when I miss some simple shot.”
Williams, from Wales, will now play Mark Joyce in the quarter-finals, a match for which he will be a heavy favourite as the Walsall player has very little experience of playing on television and is enjoying his best ever run at a major tournament.
Williams said: “It is the worst I have ever played to win a snooker match. I just wanted to get out of there, it was embarrassing.
“Stephen couldn’t believe the shots he was missing, and neither could I about mine. Maybe I need to go and see Bernhard with him.”
